The Office for Research, Innovation, and Impact (RII) and the Arizona Institute for Resilience (AIR) at the University of Arizona invite applications for the Paul and Alice Baker Endowed Postdoctoral Research Associate in Climate Change and Human Resiliency. The Baker Prize will elevate scholarship of urgent global challenges in climate science and human resiliency, while enhancing the capacity of future leaders and scholars dedicated to tackling climate and environmental problems through science at the University of Arizona. This postdoctoral fellowship provides an opportunity for a recent Ph.D. recipient to pursue an ambitious research program connected to the U of Arizona's strengths in climate science, adaptation, and resilience solutions. The goal of the program is to provide research opportunities and career development for an excellent postdoctoral scholar and to encourage this outstanding candidate to pursue a faculty or research career at the University of Arizona.

We seek a collaborative individual with inter- and transdisciplinary research interests who is motivated to integrate perspectives across disciplines relevant to climate change and human resiliency. Applications will include a CV, cover letter, two-page research proposal, letter of support from a faculty mentor, and contact information for three references, and must be received by July 1, 2024, to receive full consideration. The Baker Prize recipient will receive an annual stipend of $70,000 per year, plus benefits associated with postdoctoral appointments, as well as access to $2,500 per year to support travel and research expenses. The recipient will be initially appointed to a one-year postdoctoral position contingent upon funding and performance, starting in August 2024, with the opportunity of being requested by the host department to move forward with the process to be vetted for a faculty position once the postdoctoral appointment has been completed, pending adequate annual progress and commitment to a faculty position by an appropriate academic unit. Candidates must have completed all of the requirements for a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the start date of the postdoctoral appointment, and be no more than three years from receipt of the Ph.D. The department will be provided with one or two additional years of support for the faculty position.
