Finish Carpenter

POSITION SUMMARY

Builds wooden structures and other carpentry items according to oral instructions. Involved in the installation of protection (floors, walls, casework, etc.), installation of doors, hardware, trim, division 10 specialties, completion of minor punch list items and minor touch-up, demolition, and other daily items that might arise due to project conditions, schedule, and needs from project management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cuts or saws boards, timbers, or plywood to required size, using handsaw, power saw, or woodworking machine.
  • Assembles and fastens material together to construct wood or metal framework of structure, using bolts, nails, or screws.
  • Bores holes in timber, masonry, or concrete walls, using power drill.
  • Fabricates, assembles, and/or disassembles parts by hand or by woodworking and metalworking machines.
  • Climbs ladders, concrete formwork, or other structures necessary to erect formwork and access elevated areas.
  • Performs functions and adheres to all safety procedures according to company and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Updates and uses relevant knowledge to complete own work.
  • Moves and lifts heavy objects.
  • Cuts, shapes, fits, or joins wood or other construction materials.
  • Uses basic carpentry techniques.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Erects framework, scaffolds, hoists, roof supports, or chutes using hand tools, a plumb rule, and a level.
  • Operates vehicles, mechanized devices, and/or equipment as required and if certified.
  • Performs demolition or repairs on existing structures, and repairs cracks, defects, or damage in installed building materials.
  • Apply adhesives, caulking, sealants, or coatings.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Up to 1 year of experience from residential, cabinetry, or laborer work.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

  • General understanding of various tools and understands components of systems.
  • Required to be exact or highly accurate and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and repair any errors.
  • Ability to climb scaffolding, formwork, ladders is required.
  • Ability to identify proper tools for specific functions.
  • Ability to listen and follow directions.
  • Ability to be responsible for the health and safety of others by working safely.
  • Ability to adhere to strict quality control measures.
  • Ability to read and understand a tape measure.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear. Safety requirements necessitate no language barrier exist between employees and supervisors. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. The employee must also lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee may be required to lift heavy objects in awkward positions that require flexible range of motion. Specific vision abilities include close vision and peripheral vision. The employee is also required to frequently inspect the project and will be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions, including rain, sleet, snow, wind, and heat. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. The employee is also required to frequently walk on uneven surfaces.

Hazards: May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold as well as certain unsafe environments; occasionally works near moving equipment and mechanical parts and electrical equipment; possible exposure to fumes or airborne particles; possible exposure to internal liquids. This is a safety sensitive position where a momentary lapse of attention can result in serious injury or death. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally very loud. Must follow all safety requirements carefully.
