Full Range: $94,500 - $147,500 annually

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

About the Position

Maricopa County is seeking a dynamic leader to plan and drive strategic high-level initiatives for the Maricopa County Manager's Office. The County Manager is responsible for the overall operations of Maricopa County and administering policy directions set by the Maricopa Board of Supervisors.

The Special Assistant will directly support the County Manager by conducting research and analysis, building relationships, managing critical projects, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the County Manager's Office, including budgeting, policy development, strategic planning, human resources, and administrative support. The Special Assistant will also work closely with a broad range of County leaders, including Assistant County Managers and department directors.

We Require

  • Six (6) years of professional experience with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Public or Business Administration, Public Policy, Project Management or a closely related field
  • A combination of post-secondary education andjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

  • Three years of experience managing projects or conducting research in a government agency
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and managing projects
  • Excellent writing skills

Job Contributions

  • Effectively partners with the Deputy County Manager, Assistant County Managers, Executive Director, department directors, and other County leaders to implement programs, projects, and plans as directed by the County Manager
  • Supervises administrative support staff
  • Researches and resolves complex administrative and operational issues
  • Analyzes, researches, and collaborates with department directors and staff on key operational goals, objectives, and measures
  • Develops project scope documents and work plans as appropriate
  • Briefs County leaders on assigned issues, programs, and projects
  • Meets with residents, businesses, and other groups to resolve issues, concerns, and questions
  • Manages budget and financial documents in coordination with the Budget Office
  • Provides general human resources support and guidance to the County Manager's Office, including assisting with recruitment, onboarding, and other tasks in consultation with the County's Human Resources Department
  • Develops reports, documents, or other material that is understandable, accurate, and consumable for the County Manager and other key County leaders
  • Manages outside contractors or vendors to support programs and projects directed by the County Manager

Working Conditions

Typical office environment. Telework is an option. May need to travel to other departments for in-person meetings.For this reason, the successful candidate must possess a valid Arizona driver's license, or be able obtain one, by the time of hire.
