  • SUMMARY
    Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Senior Engineering Manager is responsible for providing engineering related support to Cordia's project development and acquisition efforts and for its existing District Energy, CHP and Micro-Grid facilities. This individual will also support research and development efforts in conjunction with other Cordia departments and strategic partners to identify, evaluate and commercialize the next generation of energy production, control and monitoring and distribution technologies to be utilized at Cordia.

This person will be responsible for coordinating technical due diligence required for new development and acquisition projects; developing conceptual designs for new, replacement or expanded equipment and systems; development of preliminary budgets and schedules; and provision of other technical support as requested by the Business Development and Plant Operations teams. From time to time this person will serve as Owners Project Manager through completion of final design and construction of new projects.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY RESULTS AREAS

  • Assist Director of Engineering and Business Development Directors in securing approval of acquisitions or development of new, District Energy, CHP and Microgrid projects. Key responsibilities would include:
    • Lead technical due diligence on development projects.
    • Assist in preparation of responses to requests for proposals for acquisitions and new projects.
    • Lead solicitation of proposals and selection of consulting engineers for feasibility studies and preliminary engineering.
    • Manager development of performance models to evaluate expected performance characteristics for selected technologies
    • Work with outside equipment and system vendors and engineering consultants to develop project scope, budget and schedule
    • Develop project Basis of Design (BOD).
    • Support development of financial model
  • Assist Director of Engineering with review and analysis associated with continuous improvement process intended to drive down the cost of development and operation of deployed distributed generation technologies.
  • Identify and conduct due diligence on new or advanced technologies for the production and distribution of electricity, heating and cooling.
  • Assist Plant Managers and Plant Engineers with review of proposed major repairs and capital improvements with respect to application of proper engineering methods and standards.
  • Assist Plant Managers and Plant Engineers in analyzing operational issues and identification of potential improvements.
  • Assist Plant Managers and Plant Engineers in developing plans and budgets for district energy system capacity and distribution expansions required to serve additional customer load.
    • Complete studies and analysis to identify optimal capacity additions and distribution expansion routing and configuration and develop cost estimates for possible options
  • Manage approved capital projects. Maintain ownership of budget, schedule, and design and construction contracts.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related required.
  • 15+ years of experience working in one or more aspects of the design, construction and operation of utility, industrial or institutional projects.
  • 10+ years of experience serving as lead project or construction manager or as a member of a project management team with significant demonstrated responsibility involved in the design and construction of utility, industrial or institutional projects in excess of $10,000,000.
  • Direct experience in the areas of combined heat and power, central utility plants, and utility distributions systems a plus.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred, but not required.
  • LEED NC or LEED O&M certification a plus

Knowledge and Skills

  • Capable of contributing in a diverse team environment comprised of individuals within other Company departments as well as external consultants, vendors and contractors.
  • The ability to work independently and make decisions independently if necessary.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with the project team and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products specifically including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project and SharePoint
  • Experience with computer-based project management software.
  • Experience with computer-based construction cost estimating software.
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP system preferred.
