Job Summary

This position processes all cash receipt transactions (cash, credit cards, EFT's, and Lockbox) for the District Office. The cashier records departmental receipts, third-party payments, and overpayments using different methods such as check deposit machine and PeopleSoft SIS. The cashier also processes petty cash, and completes a Daily Cash Summary before closing each day. Approves Travel Authorizations and Expense Reports for all District Office employees and is responsible for understanding and explaining the MCCCD travel policies. Attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency are critical skills required for this position.

Essential Functions

50% - Responsible for cashier duties: prepares cash summaries; deposits checks, credit cards, cash into bank accounts; records payments (including third parties) in the PeopleSoft Student Information System; issues check; and reconciles cash drawer.

30% - Reviews and approves District Office travel requests for completeness, availability of funds and conformance to regulations.

5% - Reviews, approves and reconciles petty cash documentation for completeness, availability of funds, and conformity to regulations and procedures.

15% - Responds and resolves customer questions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of related finance or accounting support experience such as processing financial transactions or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation

Desired Qualifications

A. 1-2 years' cash handling experience and producing daily cash reports.

B. 1-2 years' experience working in PeopleSoft SIS or FMS, or other financial system software.

C. 1-2 years' experience customer service experience in high volume, financial environment.

D. 1-2 years' experience understanding and explaining complex policy and procedures to customers.

E. Proficient in Microsoft Office products especially Excel

F. 1-2 years' experience reconciling cashiering processes

G. 1-2 years' experience in accounts receivables either invoicing or reviewing invoices for payment
