Summary of Position Functions

The Journeyworker III & IV - Pipefitting will handle the installation, maintenance, and repair of various piping systems in commercial structures such as schools, office buildings, hospitals, and other commercial facilities.

Essential Position Functions

  • Responsible for the fit up and construction of piping systems.
  • Cuts pipe using power tools, pipe cutter, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine.
  • Threads pipe using threading machine.
  • Assembles and installs a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings.
  • Installs pipe hangers.
  • Performs hydro-tests and air tests of piping systems for leaks.
  • Follows all safety standards.
  • Requests direction and clarification from supervisor on goals and to ensure tasks are completed per company quality.

Education and Qualifications

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 3 to 5 + years of related experience required.
  • Must be able to obtain a fingerprint card.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read and understand piping isometric drawings and P&ID's.
  • Knowledge of Torch cutting, and the operation of equipment such as pipe cutting/beveling machines and basic rigging knowledge.
  • Ability to perform steam tracing on associated piping systems.
  • Ability to layout and install pipe hangers.
  • Knowledge of control valves, check valves and relief valves related to removal, handling, and proper installation.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time/workload.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed.
  • Ability to effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and staff.
  • Knowledge of Veregy's services and processes is required which can be obtained through intellect, technical inclination, and dedication to gain such knowledge.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
