Mechatronic Engineer

Chandler Arizona

Mission/Purpose of the Job:

A mechatronics engineer integrates principles from mechanical engineering, electronics, computer science, and control systems to design and develop smart and automated systems. They are skilled in designing mechanical components, integrating sensors and actuators, programming microcontrollers, and developing sophisticated control algorithms to enable machines to perform tasks autonomously and efficiently.

Main Responsibilities:

  • System Design and Integration: Support the STC products integration of mechanical components, electronic sensors, actuators, and control systems to create innovative and intelligent machines or systems. The mechatronics engineer ensure that all components work together seamlessly to achieve the desired functionality and performance.
  • Manufacturing engineering: Work with production to develop manufacturing methods for new products and improve existing methods. Work with standard and custom production tools and equipment.
  • Manufacturing Process Capability: Establish manufacturing tolerances to produce system components and assemblies. Support developing and documenting requirements and interface constraints for components.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Support the build and test of STC prototypes of Product Company designs to evaluate their rebuild functionality and identify potential improvements.
  • Manufacturing simulations: The Mechatronics engineer will conduct evaluations and 3D model simulations to validate the performance of the systems and make necessary adjustments. Run simulation models that will produce a set metrics customized for the Chandler STC Arizona factory.
  • Test Equipment Software: Mechatronics engineer will assist in test software evaluations of CTI final test, refrigeration testing and ITS modules and motor testing.
  • Electronics sensors integration into the manufacturing process equipment such as proximity sensors, to enable the system to perceive and respond to its environment.
  • Process Automation Standardization: Work on CTI build process projects related to industrial automation. The mechatronic engineer with work with other STC sites for manufacturing, assembly lines, and process autonomation vehicles.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve issues with mechatronic systems and provide maintenance and support to ensure their continued smooth operation.
  • Safety and Compliance: Work with the Chandler safety, health and environment team to ensure that mechatronic systems meet safety standards and regulatory requirements, particularly in safety critical operations.
  • Innovation and Research: Mechatronics engineer will provide inputs to the research and development activities of the Chandler site to provide smart systems, contributing to technological advancements of the operations build and test

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

  • Mechatronics BS or 5 years equivalent experience with the integration of mechanical and electrical systems for manufacturing.
  • Ability to read, interpret engineering and manufacturing process drawings.
  • Proficient with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 (Y14.5-2009 preferred).
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical component systems.
  • Innate ability to problem-solve or develop solutions for complex integrated systems.
  • Knowledge of Autodesk and manufacturing simulation software allowing the user to vary any aspect of the manufacturing process. 3D modeling tools experience is a highly desired. Knowledge or experience with solid modeling; Solidworks proficiency a plus.
  • Ability to quantity manufacturing deployment, process times, process quality (rework), and machine availability.
  • Some fabrication, machining, and assembly skills required for prototyping and working with production on new products is desired.
  • Technical writing of internal and external manuals and instructions.
  • Basic Knowledge of programming microcontrollers, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and other control devices to manage and regulate the behavior of the mechanical and electronic components in the system.
