What The Role Is

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Gas Plant Operations & Engineering to assist in overseeing the operations and maintenance of more than 2,500 MW of utility-scale conventional power plants in California and Connecticut. In this role, you will work closely with the contracted operations and maintenance teams to ensure optimal performance, maintenance, and availability of the gas plant fleet. This role reports to the Senior Vice President, Operations. Location preferred Houston, TX or Scottsdale, AZ.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure the assets and our contracted service providers remain compliant with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Fleet Management: Assist in developing and implementing strategies for the management and operation of conventional assets, including fleet optimization, maintenance schedules, and performance tracking.
  • Maintenance Planning: Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop and execute comprehensive maintenance plans for the assets, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum equipment availability.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and analyze the performance of the fleet, including energy generation, efficiency, and equipment health. Identify opportunities for improvement and work to implement corrective measures as necessary.
  • Issue Resolution: Act as a point of escalation and review for operational/technical issues and provide guidance to the operations team. Implement proactive measures to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Service Provider and OEM Management: Evaluate performance and assist in negotiating contracts to optimize fleet operations.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Generate regular reports and develop dashboards for fleet performance, maintenance activities, and cost analysis. Provide insights and recommendations to management for improving operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Leadership and Development: Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and excellence. Provide coaching and training to enhance technical skills and operational knowledge.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, economics, or a related field
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and environmental sustainability.
  • Strong operations and engineering experience with the ability to support a high-performance organization.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, vendors, and senior management.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated self-starter with a growth mindset and passion for leadership and people management.
  • Understanding of project financial models and financial metrics.
  • Ability to read complex agreements to analyze and identify obligations and risk.
  • Willingness to travel as required for site visits and meetings.

What Would Be Nice
  • MBA is highly desirable
  • 10+ years of energy industry experience in engineering, plant operations, project management, asset management, contract administration, or commensurate role
  • 6+ years of increasing management responsibility/experience
  • Prior experience building a team and establishing processes and systems to support high-growth activities
  • Experience working in conventional energy industry is required

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law. This role is eligible to earn an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.

Salary Range Across all U.S. Locations
$180,000$250,000 USD
